Tybee Island and Savannah

July 19, 2009

cockspur-lighthouse It’s nice to know that a beach getaway is an easy and fairly inexpensive trip from Atlanta.   The vibe there is easy and mellow you can really relax.

Many have asked about our experience, so I have included more detailed information below.   Use this link www.jeffdauler.com/tybee-island-pictures-links for some photos.

From the top of the Perimeter the drive took about 5 1/2 hours.  We stopped in Macon for lunch at Nu-Way (worth it).

Dining in Tybee –
Breakfast Club – great breakfast worth the wait.  The line gets longer later in the day, go early if you can.
Fannies on the beach – near the boardwalk with a great outdoor balcony that looks at the beach and ocean.
Crab Shack – must see just for the experience alone. It’s outdoors and great for Sunsets, try the deviled crab and the key lime margarita.
Cafe Loco – Try the salmon BLT,the fish tacos, buffalo blue crab (great) and tuna bites .  Margarita’s are delicious and STRONG beware!
A.J.’s – Great for watching sunset on the back river.

We stayed in a rented beach house from www.oceanfrontcottagerentals.com it was incredible and really made the trip.  Waking up with beach and water views each day is a beautiful thing.

Don’t miss the The Lighthouse and remember that Sandra Bullock has a house on the North end of the Island.

Tybee provides discounts, goodies, events and more to visitors and day-trippers and some steals on lodging!!  Check out www.tybeesbiggive.com for more information.
are not dog friendly we had to sneak her on.  🙂

If you venture into Savannah, please do not miss: www.backinthedaybakery.com, www.noblefare.com and Lady and Sons (Paula Deens place) or Uncle Bubbas Oyster house (owned by Paula Deen and her brother) if you like Oysters get them chargrilled ..  to die for.

Also recommeded stops in Savannah that we didn’t get to include Zunzi’s, Fiddlers, Spankys, Pirates House – all downtown.
Moon River & Wet Willies for drinks and Garibaldis for dinner which looked amazing but was BOOKED on Sat night.
